The Friends arrange two or three outings each year for members. In June this year a party travelledl to Rutland and Lincolnshire, visiting Coventry and Peterborough Cathedrals, Geoff Hamilton’s gardens at Barnsdale, and some beautiful villages around Rutland Water.
There was one-day trip to find Jane Austen in Chawton on Thursday 8th May, where we stopped off at Winchester Cathedral on the way home.
In May 2007 a group of the Friends spent five days in Suffolk. We were extremely lucky with the weather – about the only fine week in three months! We stayed in Sudbury (home of Gainsborough) and visited Bury St Edmunds Cathedral, Ely Cathedral, Lavenham and Long Melford churches, Pakenham Water Mill, Wicken Fen Nature Reserve, Aldeburgh (including the Maggie Hambling sculpture), Sutton Hoo, Flatford Mill and Beth Chatto’s garden.
