New Assistant Secretary Appointed

After been christened in Sherborne Abbey aged nine days old, it seemed inevitable that my love of historic buildings, especially cathedrals, would develop so strongly.

Having been brought up in an idyllic country environment in the Wylye Valley my two passions of farming and historic monuments were covered. I was fortunate after a spell in London to come back to work in Salisbury with national land agents Strutt & Parker and then after children in a fund raising capacity with several charities including the Countryside Alliance and Macmillan Cancer Relief.

Now, I am in the enviable position of having one of the best views from a desk in Salisbury overlooking the north porch of the Cathedral as your new Assistant Secretary.

Lizzie Rowe

In September 2007 I was invited to act as Chaperone for the Salisbury Cathedral Junior Choir which has gone from strength to strength. In October we are performing in a wonderful concert “Stari Most” in the Cathedral with conductor Howard Moody.

With two girls, Sophie and Hettie, at The Cathedral School, the latter aged 7 and chasing David Halls hard for a chorister place and my husband, Nicholas, we have all recently moved from the Wylye Valley into The Close, which is paradise; a huge playground for the girls and an unbeatable alarm clock for me!

We are all looking forward to spending our first Christmas based in Salisbury and being involved with the Cathedral and with The Friends, which after the well attended “Friends Day” in September, I quickly realised is a very unique family.

My objective for the next year is to increase the membership levels closer to the magical figure of 4,000 which is currently running at a very respectable number of 3,503. With the total loyal support of you,
