The Friends regularly make grants to the Cathedral towards its upkeep. Grants in the recent past include repairs to the Eastern Chapel roof, restoration of the Cloisters, new boilers for the heating, a new sound system and a loop system for those with impaired hearing, and 1800 new chairs.
Their latest, and largest, grant has been £361,000 towards the cost of designing and installing a new lighting system. This has involved replacing some 26 kilometres of electric cabling, as well as the installation of the new lighting system inside the building.
A full list of grants made since the foundation of the Friends may be seen by clicking here. Grants total well over £2 million, and that does not allow for inflation. |
